Acting Executive Director for the United States, World Bank
Karen Mathiasen is the Acting Executive Director for the United States at the World Bank. Prior to this position, she served as a Senior Advisor in the same Office.
Karen Mathiasen has also held several positions at the US Treasury Department, including Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary, Debt and Development Policy (2012-2015), Director, Office of Multilateral Development Banks (2008-2012), Director, Office of the Middle East and North Africa (2005-2008), Senior Economist, Iraq Financial Task Force (2002-2003), Director, Office of Central and Southeastern Europe (2000-2002) and Director, Office of Middle East, Central and South Asia (1997-1997).
She holds a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from Tufts University, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and a BA in Economics and Political Science from Smith College.
